Our story

Yolŋu Radio is a community radio station that serves as a cultural stronghold for Yolŋu language, music and storytelling. Our messaging is almost exclusively in Yolŋu matha, and our relationship with our audience is one that many media entities strive for. Our work is made for Yolŋu, by Yolŋu. Our station operates as an information hub and celebration of Yolŋu law, knowledge and worldview.

Established in 2002, Yolŋu Radio broadcasts into 19 different sites across Northeast Arnhem Land and Darwin. Our station is a part of ARDS Aboriginal Corporation, who specialise in Yolŋu empowerment and bridging the gap between the Yolŋu and Western (balanda) worlds, and it’s our role to deliver quality community broadcasting and facilitate all creative media projects.
